Vacancy: Head of Office – Edinburgh

We are currently recruiting a Head of Office to manage our CLAO Edinburgh team of solicitors’ casework and referral service, in conjunction with managing their own caseload.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced manager and litigator with a keen interest in social welfare and public law to manage a team that provides impactful legal services to clients, making a real difference.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations and staff within the CLAO office to ensure delivery of CLAO services and business objectives
  • Assist the Head of Service with delivering and developing CLAO services, efficiencies, and strategic capabilities across the network
  • Manage own mixed and complex caseload independently
  • Provide appropriate, timely and independent advice and representation
  • Manage, and as required participate in, rotas and duty schemes to ensure the provision of a duty solicitor and second tier service, and operation of CLAO helplines
  • Form effective links and referral mechanisms with solicitors in private practice and partner agencies
  • Contribute to policy development on delivery of civil legal assistance
  • Represent CLAO and Scottish Legal Aid Board (where appropriate) in relations with outside agencies.

The role will be primarily based in Edinburgh with occasional travel to the Lothians. From time-to-time travel to other areas may be expected, to cover work across the network in accordance with the needs of the business.
