Vacancy: Senior Solicitor – Aberdeen

  • Senior Solicitor (Grade 7) – Aberdeen
    Ref no 51
Part time (17.5 hours per week), permanent
    Application deadline: Sunday 17 May

We are seeking a part time Senior Solicitor to join CLAO Aberdeen, offering a rewarding opportunity to provide high-quality, trauma-informed legal advice and representation to legally aided clients at critical points in their lives.

You will manage a varied and complex caseload, focusing on children’s hearings, public family law, housing, and homelessness. Alongside this, you will support the Head of Office with day-to-day operations, mentor colleagues, contribute to service development, and build strong partnerships with external agencies.

This role suits an experienced civil litigation solicitor with a commitment to access to justice and an interest in developing supervisory skills.

Based in Aberdeen, the role requires regular attendance at local courts and hearings. Flexible working is available, but consistent presence in the Aberdeen office is expected, so locally based candidates are preferred.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Strong practical experience in at least one of our core areas of work (housing & homelessness, public family law, mental health & AWI, benefits and debt matters) including advocacy and case management in complex or contentious matters
  • A sound understanding of legal aid and the wider civil justice system in Scotland
  • Excellent judgement, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work independently while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and support colleagues effectively
  • A collaborative, flexible, and pragmatic approach to delivering high-quality public legal services.
