Call in to find out what help the Civil Legal Assistance Office may be able to offer you.

If eligible for legal aid, the Civil Legal Assistance Office can help by taking on your case directly or referring you to other suitable legal or advice providers. If not eligible for legal aid, we can assist you with signposting to other sources of help.

Rhea, originally from the Isle of Lewis, knows the importance of access to legal advice and representation in Scotland’s Island communities. She said:

“It has been helpful to visit our Islands and meet both existing and new community based partners to hear directly about the challenges faced in their communities. The Civil Legal Assistance Office (CLAO), in addition to providing direct assistance to individuals, can provide support to our community based partners through training on legal topics and legal guidance.

“Working in our island communities is not a one-off intervention and the Civil Legal Assistance Office Highland and Islands will continue to provide direct legal assistance to those eligible for legal aid through casework and referrals. For those not eligible for legal aid we can provide signposting to other legal or advice providers.  We are keen to build relationships with our community based partners and strengthen the role of the Civil Legal Assistance Office in supporting frontline workers and their clients.”
